NORTH MIAMI BEACH, Fla. — A South Florida man is accused of fatally shooting his mother Sunday after having an argument with her over orange juice, an air conditioner remote and the use of her car, authorities said.
Luis Martin Pages, 29, of North Miami Beach, was charged with one count of second-degree murder with a deadly weapon in connection with the death of Miriam Gonzalez, 59, WLPG reported. Pages is being held at Miami-Dade Corrections without bail, the Miami Herald reported.
According to a police report, Pages called 911 and told the dispatcher he had shot his mother, the television station reported. When detectives arrived at 5 p.m., Pages allegedly told them he “lost it” and “I killed her. Take me to jail.”
Pages had been living with Gonzalez for about a month, the Herald reported.
Pages told police that he began arguing when she refused to let him use her car to go looking for a job on Labor Day, WSVN reported. They then argued about orange juice and an air conditioning remote, the television station reported.
According to Pages, his mother allegedly threatened him with a knife, prompting him to shoot her multiple times, WTVJ reported.
Gonzalez was pronounced dead at the scene, according to WSVN.
Pages was out on bail after he was arrested in January on petit theft and resisting an officer charge, the Herald reported.
This time, based on the charges, he is being held at Miami-Dade jail with no bond.
