A customer at a Colorado Home Depot was bitten in the face by a dog while shopping, according to authorities.
The customer was visiting a Home Depot in Evergreen when the dog’s owner and a trainer approached them, according to the Jefferson (Colorado) County Sheriff’s Department.
The dog owner asked the customer to give the dog a treat as part of its training, according to authorities, and when the customer did, the dog bit the customer in the face.
The dog owner and trainer then left the building while store employees were tending to the victim, according to CBS News.
Both women were recorded on the store’s surveillance camera, and the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office posted the images on social media Thursday. The dog’s owner was located that night.
The customer suffered “serious” injuries and will need facial surgery because of the attack, according to KDVR-TV.
“The owner would be held accountable for restitution or in the event of any enforcement action,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement on Facebook. “For dog bites, the dog is quarantined at their home for 10 days, to ensure the dog is not exhibiting any behaviors associated with rabies.”
