According to the Delaware State Police, on Sunday just before 2 a.m., the victim and his five friends had a Lyft driver pick them up in Dewey Beach to take them back to their residence in Bethany Beach.

The Associated Press said that the group was traveling on U.S. 1 when an argument started with the Lyft driver. The driver stopped the car in the southbound left lane and demanded that the group get out of the car.

DSP said that another driver in a Toyota Corolla was driving in the left lane southbound on the highway, towards the stopped Lyft car. The driver switched lanes to avoid hitting the Lyft car and ended up hitting a pedestrian. DSP said that the pedestrian had just gotten out of the Lyft car and was standing in the roadway.

The driver of the Corolla pulled over immediately after the crash as the Lyft car fled the scene. The pedestrian, a 43-year-old man from Clarksburg, Maryland, was pronounced dead at the scene. His identification is pending a next of kin notification, according to DSP.

The five other people who were in the Lyft car were not injured, said DSP.

According to the AP, police are looking for the Lyft driver who fled the scene.

DSP said the Lyft driver has not been identified. The investigation is ongoing.
