PERRYVILLE, Md. — Police are searching for a man in “blackface” who robbed a bank Tuesday in Maryland.
In a since-removed post on social media, Perryville police said they are searching for a “white male, with paint on his face,” who was seen on surveillance footage robbing a PNC bank, WBFF reported.
Police said the man is in his late 20s and about 5 feet, 5 inches tall.
Although blackface, makeup used by a nonblack performer, is considered highly offensive, police do not believe the incident had any racist connotation, the Baltimore Sun reported.
However, police did remove the post on social media about the robbery because of incendiary comments.
“In lieu of our recent post and its many comments (some being derogatory and/or vulgar), we have elected to take down/remove the post,” police wrote on social media. “We do appreciate those who had contributed any information in regards to the bank robbery. We ask that in future posts regarding a crime that we limit any commenting to relevance of the incident and details.”
