Some employees represented by United Auto Workers will see the biggest payouts in more than 35 years.
Stellantis, the company behind Jeep, Chrysler and Ram, said its employees who are represented by United Auto Workers will see checks of up to $14,650, thanks to the removal of a profit-sharing maximum in the 2019 contract, The Detroit News reported.
Last year’s check was $8,010, and this year’s will be the largest that Stellantis or its predecessors have announced in 35 years, the company said in an email, The Detroit Free Press reported. That total puts workers at Stellantis facilities ahead of those at Ford ($7,377) and General Motors ($10,250), The Detroit Free Press reported.
Stellantis said it made a net profit of $15 billion, allowing it to cut checks for its 43,000 employees, WJBK reported. Payment should arrive for eligible workers on March 11, and is the result of a 2019 collective bargaining agreement, WJBK reported.
The director of the UAW Stellantis Department, Cindy Estrada, told The Detroit Free Press that the announcement was “a reflection of the hard work and dedication UAW members bring toward the success of Jeep, Chrysler, Dodge and Ram sales. UAW Stellantis members are proud of the product they create every day, especially during challenging environments over the past two years. We continue to make sure that this dedication in the face of pandemic and unforeseen parts shortages is recognized properly.”
To calculate how each employee will be paid, employees will receive up to $900 per 1% of profit margin in North America, based on how many hours each individual employee worked over the last year, The Detroit News reported.
