NEW YORK — Rapper Kidd Creole has been sentenced to 16 years in prison for killing a man in 2017.
WABC says the 62-year-old rapper, whose legal name is Nathaniel Glover Jr., was found guilty of manslaughter in the first degree last April for stabbing 55-year-old John Jolly in 2017, who happened to be a homeless man.

Glover, who is from the Bronx, is best known as a founding member of the rap group Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five, according to WABC.
The Manhattan District Attorney Alvin L. Bragg, Jr., announced Glover’s sentencing according to a press release from the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office. It stated that Glover had walked past Jolly near East 43rd Street by Lexington and Third avenues. Eventually, Glover turned around, approached Jolly, and stabbed him multiple times. Jolly was taken to the hospital where he later died from his injuries.
“Mr. Jolly’s death was devastating to his family and those who knew him. Every life we lose to violent crime ripples throughout our entire city, and we will continue to ensure everyone in our borough can live their lives with the sense of safety and security they deserve. This case makes clear that if you commit a violent crime, we will hold you accountable, and I thank our team for their hard work achieving justice in this matter,” said District Attorney Bragg.
According to a videotaped interview with police after the stabbing, Glover claimed he became frustrated after believing that Jolly was making sexual advances toward him, Rolling Stone reported.
“To tell the truth, I thought he was gay and because I thought he was gay, and he was saying that to me, ‘What’s up,’ I was thinking that he was thinking (that) I was gay,” Glover said at the time, according to the magazine. “So I was a little annoyed by that. He approached me. I got a little nervous. So then I tried to back up a little bit, and he moved forward, and then I just took the knife and stabbed him … I wish I never would have seen him. It’s all my fault because I chose to stab him. I have to take responsibility for that.”
