According to a news release from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service, Abbyland Foods of Abbotsford, Wisconsin, is recalling about 11,800 pounds of its frozen turkey meatballs.

The products were produced on March 3 and were shipped to hotels, restaurants and other institutions nationwide.

The products were packaged in 5-pound unlabeled boxes of “Jennie-O Fully Cooked Turkey Sausage Patties” with the lot code 06223, the FSIS said in its recall release.

The products bear the establishment number P-17764 inside the USDA’s inspection mark, according to the FSIS.

The problem was discovered when a food service customer notified Abbyland Foods about the labeling issue. The customer said they opened a box of turkey sausage patties and found turkey meatballs instead, the FSIS said.

The meatballs contained soy protein concentrate, which was not declared on the package label.

Institutions have been urged by the FSIS not to serve these products. Instead, they should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.
