Ikea has recalled about 12,000 of its Odger swivel chairs due to the furniture breaking and causing a falling hazard to consumers.
According to a news release from the Consumer Product Safety Commission, the Swedish furniture giant received four reports of the anthracite-colored chairs breaking. Two consumers in the U.S. were injured as a result of falling when the chairs broke, the CPSC said.
“The chair’s leg base can break, posing fall and injury hazards,” the recall alert states.
The recall covers Odger swivel chairs with a date stamp “before and including 2221,” the CPSC said. The date stamp can be found under the seat. The first two digits represent the year.
Ikea sold the chairs from October 2019 through December 2022 at a retail price of $160.
Ikea is offering refunds to consumers. Customers can return the chair to any Ikea store or can contact the company for instructions on how to dispose of the furniture.
Consumers can call Ikea at 888-966-4532, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. EST.
