Two automakers are issuing a massive recall that involves more than 591,000 vehicles.
Kia is recalling 440,000 2013 thorough 2015 Optimas and 2014 and 2015 Sorento SUVs, The Associated Press reported.
At the same time, Hyundai is recalling 151,000 Santa Fe SUVs from 2013 to 2015.
Both companies said the recall was issued because of a brake fluid leak inside of a hydraulic control unit that operates the anti-lock brakes. The leak could cause a short and could start a fire, the AP reported.
There have been 15 reports of Hyundai fires and eight reports of fires in Kia vehicles. There were no injuries listed in documents given to government safety officials, the AP reported.
Kia and Hyundai have been the subjects of investigations by the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration after other reports of engine fires.
Earlier this year Hyundai issued a recall of 430,000 vehicles due to similar but unrelated engine fires.
In April 2019, the NHTSA investigated fires in both Hyundais and Kias after getting reports of more than 3,100 fires and 103 injuries, the AP reported.
