WARREN, Mich. — Concerns over salmonella contamination have prompted Lipari Foods to issue a voluntary recall of ground cumin across 16 states.
According to a news release from the U.S. Food & Drug Administration, Lipari Foods, which distributes cumin made by International Food, recalled the six-ounce tubs from stores in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Missouri, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Texas, Virginia and Wisconsin.
The tubs are from lot No. 220914601 with a “best by” date of September 2024, according to the recall.

According to the Miami Herald, Lipari’s recall notice stated that the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services found salmonella in a sample of the cumin. The FDA and the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development alerted Lipari Foods about the sample, the news release stated.
Products were distributed as a generic product with “Distributed by Lipari Foods” listed on the label, according to the FDA.
There have been no reported illnesses with the product, the agency said.
Consumers who bought the products should throw it away or return it to the point of purchase, the FDA said.
