Recall alert: Mislabeled Progresso soup cans recalled over misbranding, allergen concerns

FARIBAULT, Minn. — Some cans of Progresso Organic Chicken Noodle Soup traced to a Minnesota company are being recalled due to a mislabeling issue that could expose consumers to allergens, not to mention an entirely different product.

Faribault Foods Inc. issued the voluntary recall Tuesday of 15,134 pounds of the soup that, despite the “Organic Chicken Noodle Soup” labeling, actually contain a meatball and pasta soup, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food and Safety Inspection Service.

The cans are being recalled because the meatball and pasta soup contains milk and soy, both known allergens, as well as beef and pork that are not declared on the product label, the USDA stated.

The soup was distributed to retailers nationwide, and the problem was discovered due to customer complaints.

The affected products are 14-ounce cans, labeled Progressor Organic Chicken Noodle Soup, with a “best by” date of May 26, 2022, printed on the bottom of the can. The establishment number on the bottom of the can is EST18826A.
