In a news release, the FDA said that Russell Stover Chocolates, of Kansas City, Missouri, is voluntarily recalling some of its Sugar Free Peanut Butter Cups. The products are in 2.4-ounce packaging, according to the FDA.

The agency said that the recalled products may contain items from Russell Stover’s Sugar Free Pecan Delights, which are not declared on the label.

The product was distributed nationwide to wholesale and retail stores, the FDA said.

“People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to pecans run the risk of a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products,” the FDA said in its news release.

The FDA lists the item UPC as 077260096937 and the item code as 9693. They have Best Before dates of May 1, 2023, and June 1, 2023, with Lot code numbers K0521, K0321, K0421, L2122, L2221 and L2321, the FDA said.

The recall was issued after customers contacted Russell Stover about finding the wrong product inside the outer packaging, the FDA stated. Russell Stover confirmed that an error by the company’s third-party co-party packing company resulted in the pecan product being placed inside the wrappers for the sugar-free chocolate.

There have been no reports of any illness or allergic reactions related to this recall to date, Russell Stover said.
