Recall alert: Stormberg Foods recalls dog treats over salmonella concerns

Stormberg Foods announced that it is recalling several brands of its dog treat products over concerns of salmonella contamination.

According to a news release from the U.S. Food & Drug Administration, the Goldsboro, North Carolina-based company is recalling various sizes of its Beg & Barker Chicken Breast Strips Dog Treat, Billo’s Best Friend Chicken Breast Strips Dog Treat, and Green Coast Pets Chicken Crisps Dog Treat.

The North Carolina Department of Agriculture & Consumer Services told the company on July 6 that a sample had tested positive for salmonella, WNCN-TV reported.

Salmonella can affect pets eating the products and poses a risk to humans from handling contaminated pet products, the FDA said in its release.

All of the products had expiration dates between June 6 and June 23, 2022, the FDA said.

The Beg & Barker Chicken Breast Strips Dog Treat products were in 1- 4- and 10-ounce packages. The recalled Billo’s Best Friend Chicken Breast Strips Dog Treat products were in 4-ounce packages, while the Green Coast Pets Chicken Crisps Dog Treat products came in 4- and 8-ounce products, the FDA said.

The affected treats were distributed between June 8 and June 22 and were shipped primarily to warehouses located in California, Minnesota, North Carolina and Rhode Island, the FDA said. The products were then shipped nationwide to retail stores and consumers via the internet.

No illnesses have been reported so far, the FDA said.
