Reese’s releases 9-inch peanut butter cup for Thanksgiving

The Hershey Company on Monday unveiled its largest Reese’s peanut butter cup yet: a 9-inch, 3.4-pound Thanksgiving pie.

The super-sized treats are made entirely of chocolate and peanut butter.

“When you bring together friends and family for Thanksgiving dinner, no table spread is complete without dessert,” Bo Jones, senior associate brand manager at Reese’s, said Monday in a statement. “At Reese’s, we wanted to create a dessert that everyone wants a piece of.”

The pies are meant to be split into 48 servings of 160 calories each, according to The Hershey Company. Officials made 3,000 of them available for sale online Monday at $44.99 each plus tax. They quickly sold out.

Hershey’s officials told MarketWatch that making the extra-large peanut butter cups was “no easy feat,” and that they wanted to first see how much demand there would be for the pies.

“We’re able to see the reaction and then see if it’s something we want to scale in the future,” Hershey spokeswoman Anna Lingeris said, according to MarketWatch.

Previously, the largest Reese’s peanut butter cup available on the market was a one-pound package with two eight-ounce cups.
