NEW YORK — Spencer Grammer and a dinner date suffered knife wounds as they attempted to mediate an argument Friday night between restaurant staffers and a man who was refused service, the actress said.
Grammer, 36, has been the voice of “Rick and Morty” character Summer and played Casey Cartwright in the ABC Family series “Greek.” Grammer, the daughter of “Frasier” star Kelsey Grammer, was eating at The Black Ant in Manhattan’s East Village after 11 p.m. Friday when the man arrived at the restaurant, WNBC reported. According to police, the man demanded to be served as the restaurant, which had outdoor seating, was closing down, the television station reported.
Grammer told US Weekly she and her date “did what anyone else would do in the same situation” and were “attempting to prevent the altercation from escalating” when they were attacked.
The man fled the scene after stabbing Grammer in the right arm and her date in the lower back with an unknown sharp object, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
“I sustained a laceration on my arm, and my friend was stabbed in the back, but thankfully he suffered no serious internal injuries,” Grammer told US Weekly. “We expect to recover quickly. We want to thank the first responders and the staff at Bellevue Hospital, who provided us with excellent care. They fought an incredible battle this year. It was very moving for us to have the opportunity to thank them in person.”
Detective Sophia Mason, a spokesperson for the NYPD, confirmed the details of the attack to US Weekly on Saturday, the magazine reported.
The New York Police Department released a surveillance image of the man on Saturday, WPIX reported. No arrests have been made.
