Sam’s Club has lowered its hot dog and soda combo price due to inflation and to be cheaper than its rival, Costco.
According to CNN, Sam’s Club has lowered the price of its hot dog and drink deal at its food court, rivaling Costco which has the same combo for $1.50.
Sam’s Club on their website in an advertisement that they dropped their hot dog and drink from $1.50 to $1.38.
“Frankly, it can’t be beat. New lower price. Same great hot dog and drink combo. And the free refills are still flowing,” Sam’s Club said in the advertisement.
According to CNN, Sam’s Club is owned by Walmart, and they announced the change in price Tuesday as a way of offering bargains for shoppers that may be stretched thin due to inflation going into the holiday season.
According to Insider, Sam’s Club has also lowered prices in other areas including its membership fees, by charging $50 and $110 for different membership levels versus $60 and $120 at Costco. Walmart CEO Doug McMillion has said, according to Insider, that its also reportedly planning to keep prices low for Thanksgiving items.
According to CNN, the price of hot dogs rose by 15.2% last month, but Sam’s Club and Costco have continued to offer their hot dog combos for a low price as a special perk for their members.
CNN reported that Costco’s hot dog combo has cost $1.50 since it was brought to food courts in the mid-1980s. Reportedly, last year, Costco sold 122 million hot dog combos around the world.
According to Insider, neither Costco or Sam’s Club have raised the price during inflation. Costco CEO Craig Jelinek confirmed, according to Insider, that there were no plans to raise the price.
