HENRICO COUNTY, Va. — Christmas just got a little merrier for about 100 Walmart shoppers in Virginia after a “Secret Santa” paid their layaway balances in full.
Walmart representatives told WRIC that the anonymous elf’s Saturday donation at the Nine Mile Road Supercenter totaled $50,000.
“It is refreshing to hear something good and let people know that there are still good people out here. No matter what we are going through. There are still good people out here that are doing what it takes to be a blessing.” - customer Felicia McKay.

“I went to the store to pick up a layaway for my grandchildren. When I got back to the layaway department, the Walmart associate told me that a Secret Santa paid off my layaway,” Felicia McKay, whose 10 grandchildren range in age from 11 months to 11 years, told the TV station. “I thought he was joking. He was like, ‘No ma’am. He paid off like $50,000 of random layaways.’”
She told WRIC that her layaway tab totaled $130.

McKay, who also spoke with WTVR, said store employees told her that the man did not want recognition, “but with everything that’s going on in the world today,” she felt his good deed deserved to be celebrated.
“It just lets us know that there are still good people in the world, no matter what’s going on,” McKay told WTVR. “You never know what your act of kindness will do for another family. And once again, I just really appreciate it from the bottom of my heart.”
