It has been a year of ups and downs for Olympian Simone Biles, but this news may be better than any gold medal.
Biles announced Tuesday that she and her boyfriend Jonathan Owens are engaged to be married.
She shared her big news on Instagram, writing “THE EASIEST YES I can’t wait to spend forever & ever with you, you’re everything I dreamed of and More! let’s get married FIANCÉ.” to accompany the photos of the moment he proposed.
E! News reported the engagement happened during what appeared to be a Valentine’s Day celebration for the gymnast and the Houston Texans safety, with Owens writing on social media “Woke up this morning with a fiancée.”
The couple confirmed they were dating in August 2020, People magazine reported, but there had been prior speculation when Biles had wished Owens happy birthday on Instagram.
They spent their first anniversary apart because she was in Tokyo while representing Team USA in the Olympics, the magazine reported.
He supported her when she had to drop out of several events after she suffered from the “twisties,” becoming disoriented while she was performing, Entertainment Tonight reported.
