Keith Hufnagel, an influential skateboarder who founded the skate and streetwear brand Huf Worldwide, died from brain cancer earlier this week, his company said. He was 46.
“Keith loved skateboarding and the culture around it,” Huf Worldwide said in a statement on its Instagram account Thursday. “He did things his way and did them for the right reasons. He inspired so many of us across the globe.
“But above anything else, Keith loved and supported the people around him. He would do anything for his friends, family and children. He passionately wanted to see others succeed. And we all loved him for it.”
Hufnagel was born Jan. 21, 1974. He was originally based in New York City but moved to the San Francisco area in 1992. He is survived by his wife and children, according to TMZ.
In a statement, USA Skateboarding said the organization was “devastated to hear that Keith Hufnagel has passed away."
“His impact on skateboarding, both on his board and off it as a designer, brand owner/founder and friend will live forever,” USA Skateboarding said. “Rest in peace, Keith.”
