The magazine reported Tuesday that fitness guru Katrina Scott, who is expecting her second child, recently returned for a “groundbreaking shoot” that will appear in this year’s issue.
“From Rookie of the Year in 2021 to the first ever visibly pregnant woman in the SI Swimsuit Issue, @katrinascott continues to show up and make waves!” Sports Illustrated captioned an Instagram photo of the smiling, bikini-clad 38-year-old.
The post also included a message from Scott.
“Sports Illustrated Swimsuit has a storied history of firsts … of breaking boundaries, building and restoring confidence, and speaking directly to all women in an empowering and inclusive voice. Today is such a special moment that I’m honored to be a part of,” she said in a statement.
“As women, we have been told, shown and expected to hide (then ‘bounce back’ from) our pregnant bodies, when, in fact, our beautiful bumps embody the miracle of what it means to be selfless, vulnerable and strong.
“In this issue, I hope to represent all the women out there that are creating life, feeling all the feels, and embracing change as they look to the future, especially those having difficult fertility journeys. I am with you, and you are never alone,” she continued. “Our bodies and minds are capable of extraordinary things, and as for me, I’m all about gracefully bouncing forward.”
Scott, who co-founded wellness company Tone It Up, told “Today” that she had two miscarriages in 2020 and a chemical pregnancy in 2021. Later that year, she walked the runway for Sports Illustrated while undergoing fertility treatments, the news outlet reported.
Scott, who shares a 3-year-old daughter, Isabelle, with her husband, Brian, was moved when a rainbow appeared during this year’s photo shoot in St. Croix, according to Sports Illustrated.
“When you’ve experienced loss and have a baby, they call it a rainbow baby,” she told the magazine. “So it’s totally a rainbow baby.”
