Starbucks calls customized orders ‘heart’ of customer experience after barista’s viral post

A viral post attributed to a Starbucks employee targeting customers’ extravagantly complicated order requests set off a recent social media firestorm, prompting the coffee behemoth to own the customization practice.

The employee, identified only by the Twitter handle @ProjectJosiee, captioned a Saturday photo: “On today’s episode of why I wanna quit my job.” The attached photo of a Venti-sized Caramel Ribbon Crunch Frappuccino showed the itemized – and comically long – list of specialized requests, including but not limited to caramel drizzle, caramel sauce, caramel crunch, honey blend, extra whipped cream, extra ice, extra Frapp chips, and cinnamon topping, People reported.

The order, placed by a customer named Edward, included 13 personalized modifications to the 24-ounce beverage, Fox News reported.

The barista’s post, which is no longer available on the social media platform, garnered more than 52,000 retweets and 336,000 likes before it vanished. It also attracted a barrage of similar “war story” posts from fellow baristas.

Meanwhile, Seattle-based Starbucks said the viral order actually epitomized the company’s core principle of dutifully fulfilling customers’ desires through its employees’ skillful crafting of such personalized masterpieces.

“Customizing beverages at Starbucks and our baristas’ expertise in helping customers find and craft the right beverage has and always will be the heart of the Starbucks Experience,” Starbucks told Fox News in a prepared statement, calling the majority of special requests “reasonable.”
