DAVIDSON, N.C. — Golden State Warriors basketball star Stephen Curry graduated from Davidson College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology 13 years after dropping out to pursue a career with the NBA.
On Sunday, Stephen Curry, 34, finally received his degree from Davidson College, which is located in North Carolina, according to People Magazine. They say he previously attended Davidson from 2006 to 2009.
Curry started his basketball career at Davidson, and helped them get to the NCAA Tournament in 2008, People Magazine says. In 2009, he was the seventh overall pick in the NBA Draft and joined the Warriors.
Curry has been with the Warriors since he was drafted, bringing them to the championships multiple times and even winning a few. ESPN reported that most recently Curry helped the Warriors win 110 to 96 over the Memphis Grizzlies in Game 6 on Friday in the Western Conference Finals. The Warriors are set to play the Dallas Mavericks next.
“Dream Come True!! Class of 2010….aka 2022 but we got it done! Thanks to my whole village that helped me get across the finish line. Made the promise when I left and had to see it through,” Curry said on Instagram.
Davidson College congratulated Curry on Twitter, stating that Curry only had one semester of coursework to complete his degree.
“Stephen Curry has on many occasions emphasized the importance of education, how much he valued his Davidson College experience and that he is committed to earning his degree,” said Davidson College.
ESPN says now that Curry has graduated, his number will most likely be retired at Davidson because the college apparently only retires numbers of players who graduate.
