More than 400,000 patio umbrellas with LED lights that were sold at Costco have been recalled because the batteries could overheat.
SunVilla Corporation issued a recall of its 10′ Solar LED Market Umbrella saying that the lithium-ion batteries in the umbrella’s solar panels could overheat, posing fire danger.
There have been at least six reports of the batteries overheating, three of which resulted in a fire, according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission.
In a release by the CPSC, the company said that consumers should stop using the umbrellas and remove the solar panel puck containing a lithium-ion battery from the top of the umbrella.
It recommended storing the battery puck out of the sun and away from combustible material and to not attempt to charge the puck with the AC adapter.
The umbrellas can be returned to any Costco Warehouse nationwide for a full refund.
If you are unable to return it to a Costco Warehouse, contact the company for how to receive a refund.
