A Brazilian surfer broke her own record for largest wave during a big wave contest, the Guinness World Records said Thursday.
Maya Gabeira caught a 73.5 foot wave during the WSL Nazare Tow Surfing Challenge in Portugal, UPI reported. She surfed the wave back in February, but was recently certified by Guinness World Records for the feat.

She set the previous record, 68 feet, at the same competition in 2018. Rodrigo Koxa, another Brazilian surfer, holds the male equivalent of the record, 80 feet.
Gabeira was also winner of the World Surf League Biggest Wave Award and the Red Bull Big Wave Award because of the wave.
“The wave was pretty special although it was terrifying as well,” she said in a statement.
The wave height was certfied through teams from the University of Southern California, WaveCo Science Team and Scripps Institution of Oceanography, Guinness said.
“To get a second one is a little bit crazy – I’ve got to wrap my head around it.”
