Suspect in fatal Las Vegas home invasion snagged after homework found in getaway car

LAS VEGAS — An 18-year-old high school student suspected in a fatal home-invasion robbery was linked to the crime after investigators found his homework in the getaway car, Las Vegas police confirmed.

Kamari Oliver, a Clark County School District student, has been charged with murder, robbery, burglary, kidnapping and home invasion while in possession of a firearm or deadly weapon in the March 25 slaying of 24-year-old Natalie Manduley, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported.

An arrest report stated that Oliver was taken into custody March 28 at a Clark County high school that has not been identified publicly, the newspaper reported.

According to investigators, three men armed with handguns entered the home, prompting a shootout with Manduley, who died at the scene, KSNV reported.

Manduley lived in the home with a woman and her boyfriend, and Oliver’s arrest report indicated that the robbery was targeted because the roommate’s boyfriend is known for “selling high end jewelry on Instagram,” the Review-Journal reported.

According to the arrest report, the unidentified roommate’s boyfriend saw several robbers leaving the home and rammed their vehicle with his own into a nearby wall. A backpack containing Oliver’s math homework was found in the suspected getaway car after its occupants fled on foot.

“Inside the backpack was a school Chrome Book along with a notebook of schoolwork, specifically math work. In the top right corner of the schoolwork, the name ‘Kamari Oliver’ and ‘5th Period’ were written,” police stated in their report.

Investigators also stated that video surveillance showed Oliver disposing of a handgun near the crime scene, the Review-Journal reported.
