‘Tears have been flowing all day’: Texas server surprised with $1,100 tip in time for Christmas

SAN ANGELO, Texas — Ashley Farmer had no idea of the joy that awaited her when she showed up for her lunch shift Tuesday at Shenanigan’s Sports Bar in San Angelo, Texas.

As the nearly dozen people at one of her tables prepared to leave, one of the patrons waved her over, KTXS reported.

“We wanted to bless someone for Christmas. We’re going to give you a tip. We’re hoping that it’s the best tip you’ve ever got in your life,” Rodney Fleming, a former San Angelo city councilman, told Farmer, handing her an envelope.

Flattered, and more than a little curious, Farmer asked if they wanted her to open it, and the accompanying video of the moment shows the pure surprise in her eyes as she began counting one-hundred-dollar bills.

By the time she finished counting – at 11 – the tears visibly streamed down her face.

“I’m still in shock, honestly!” Farmer told KTXS. “The tears have been flowing all day! I will be buying my niece and nephews Christmas, catching up on bills, and paying it forward when the opportunity presents itself!”

The TV station identified the other good Samaritans at that table as Rodney Fleming’s wife, Leslee Fleming, Lavonne Walthall, Josh Covey, Deeon Covey, Michelle Kreig, Heidi Williams, Vickie Jouette, Greg Bratcher, Riley Sanchez and Casi Sanchez.

“I’m still in disbelief. It’s beautiful and shocking, and I’m just really grateful to be a part of that,” Farmer told WFAA.

Rodney Fleming and his group told the TV station that the donation was also a blessing in their lives and encouraged others to help where they can.

“I promise you, God will bless you tenfold just on the happiness. I can’t believe how happy we are that she got this money, and I pray she continues to get blessed throughout the year,” he added.
