FAIRMOUNT, Ind. — A toddler has died after authorities said he shot himself inside an Indiana home.
According to WXIN and WANE, the shooting occurred shortly after noon Tuesday at a home on North Main Street in Fairmount. Police said a 2-year-old boy discovered a gun and fired it, striking himself. He was unresponsive when officers arrived, the news outlets reported.
Emergency crews tried to revive the child and rushed him to a nearby hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead, authorities said.
The Fairmount Police Department, Indiana State Police, Grant County Coroner’s Office and Department of Child Services continue to investigate the case, according to WANE. No further information was immediately available.
