Trump tweets new video, says ‘I think I’ll be back soon’

BETHESDA, Md. — President Donald Trump released a four-minute video Saturday evening on Twitter, thanking people for their concern after he tested positive for the coronavirus and promising to “be back soon.”

The president was admitted to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center on Friday night after announcing earlier in the day that he had tested positive for COVID-19.

“I came here, wasn’t feeling so well,” Trump said in the video, which was recorded at Walter Reed. "I feel much better now. We’re working hard to get me all the way back.

“I have to be back because we still have to make America great again,” Trump said in the video. “I’ll be back, I think I’ll be back soon.”

"We’re gonna beat this coronavirus or whatever you wanna call it.”

Trump also said that the next few days will be important.

“You don’t know, over the next period of a few days, I guess that’s the real test,” Trump said in the video. “So we’ll be seeing what happens over those next couple of days.”

Trump’s video was part of a confusing day of messages. Earlier Saturday, White House chief of staff Mark Meadow said that Trump’s vital signs were “very concerning” over the past day and that he was not out of danger.

“The president’s vitals over the last 24 hours were very concerning, and the next 48 hours will be critical in terms of his care,” Meadows said. “We’re still not on a clear path to a full recovery.”

Meadows' remarks contradicted the remarks on television made moments before by the president’s physicians, The New York Times reported.

During his video, Trump said that first lady Melania Trump, who also tested positive for COVID-19, “was doing very well.”

“Our first lady is doing very well ... Melania is really handling it very nicely," Trump said. "As you’ve probably read, she’s slightly younger than me, just a little tiny bit. And therefore, just we know the disease, we know the situation with age versus younger people. And Melania is handling it statistically, like it’s supposed to be handled. And that makes me very happy,”

It is not clear when Trump filmed the video.
