The United States Postal Service is celebrating the centennial “Peanuts” creator Charles M. Schulz’s birth with new Forever Stamps.
According to a news release from USPS, 2022 marks 100 years since cartoonist Charles M. Schulz was born and in his honor, they will be releasing new stamps with his “Peanuts” characters on them.
Schulz brought his characters to life in the 1950s with Charlie Brown and Snoopy. Soon after, Lucy, Linus and others joined in, according to USPS. They became a worldwide sensation in the 1960s with television specials, books and more. USPS also noted that Schulz won a bunch of awards in his lifetime and he was awarded the Congressional Gold Medal after his death in 2000.
“In a commemorative mode, characters from his beloved comic strip “Peanuts” adorn the 10 designs on this pane of 20 stamps. They are Charlie Brown, Lucy, Franklin, Sally, Pigpen, Linus, Snoopy (with Woodstock), Schroeder, Peppermint Patty, and Marcie,” said USPS in the news release.
WTKR said that a 1987 photo of Schulz will appear in the middle of the sheets of the stamps. The stamps will also be equal in value to the current First-Class Mail’s one-ounce price, according to WTKR per USPS.
According to WTKR, the postage sheets will have about 20 Forever Stamps on them.
These stamps can be purchased on USPS’ website, by calling your local post office or by calling 844-737-7826.
USPS will be hosting an event on September 30 at the Charles M. Schulz Museum and Research Center in Santa Rosa, California. September 30 is the first day the stamps will be issued and the event is free to the public but an RSVP is encouraged. It can be found on USPS’ website.
