LONDON — 75-year-old singer-songwriter Van Morrison is planning to release three protest songs in response to what he thinks of lockdown restrictions put in place by governments around the world.
Morrison revealed Friday that he is releasing three protest songs that call for the restrictions on routine activities to be lifted.
The singer says that the songs will be released in two week intervals starting Sept. 25 according to BBC.
“Born To Be Free,” the first song released, he sings, “The new normal, is not normal/It’s no kind of normal at all/Everyone seems to have amnesia/Don’t need the government cramping my style/Give them an inch, they take a mile,” according to Variety.
The second song, which will be released Oct 9, is called “As I Walked Out” he sings “As I walked out. All the streets were empty. The government said everyone should stay home. And they spread fear and loathing/ And no hope for the future. Not many did question. This very strange move,” according to lyrics obtained by Billboard.
In the song “No More Lockdown,” which is expected Oct. 23, the singer says the lockdowns “enslave” people, effectively labels the British government as “fascist bullies,” condemns celebrities for “telling us what we are supposed to feel” and charges scientists for “making up crooked facts.”
“I’m not telling people what to do or think. The government is doing a great job of that already,” Morrison said. “It’s about freedom of choice, I believe people should have the right to think for themselves.”
