PRINCETON, Ind. — Investigators said natural gas was to blame for an explosion that destroyed a house and sent two people to the hospital.
The explosion around 11:30 a.m. Tuesday blasted the roof off the structure. A video recorded by a doorbell camera from a home across the street was shared with WEHT and shows the explosion.
The Princeton Fire Territory shared photos of the destroyed home on its Facebook page, and said that two people were taken to a hospital with burns. Firefighters arriving on the scene “found debris scattered around the house with sections of the house that had collapsed,” as well as fire from the explosion.

There were four people inside the house when it exploded, and all four were able to get out of the home on their own, WEHT reported.
Two people who live in the home, Diaghman Gibson and Tesia Crumbaugh, said maintenance had been called for help getting the heater to work before the explosion.
“Woke up to the smell of gas,” Gibson told WFIE. “Something told me to leave. So I got up and got ready, talked to the maintenance man, told him I was leaving, and to lock up whenever they was done, and I’d be back in a little bit.”
The Princeton Fire Territory said it worked with state fire investigators to determine the explosion was caused by natural gas.
“All I know is that we’ve been here for not even a week yet,” Crumbaugh told WEHT. “We had some issues with getting gas turned on. Then we got it turned on and we had to turn it off because there was something that got red flagged and next thing I know, I’m at work one day and I get a call that my house blew up.”
