With theaters closed down for over three months across the country, Walmart is planning to launch pop-up drive-in movie theaters at 160 Walmart parking lots.
Tribeca Enterprises is partnering with Walmart to launch screenings in August of classics such as “Space Jam” and “Jaws,” according to Variety.
“Drive-ins have been a signature program for Tribeca since we started the Tribeca Film Festival 19 years ago after 9/11. But now, the Tribeca Drive-In is much more than a fun, retro way to see movies — it’s one of the safest ways for communities to gather,” Jane Rosenthal, CEO and Co-Founder of Tribeca Enterprises and the Tribeca Film Festival said in a press release..
There will be 320 showings which will include family friendly nights. Concessions will be delivered to moviegoers cars.

Theaters have slowly been reopening in other areas of the country, while a renaissance of drive-ins has flourished. Though a handful of movies have been steered to streaming or on-demand platforms during the pandemic, most studio films have been postponed until theaters reopen.
