INGLEWOOD, Calif. — The Weeknd stopped his sold-out concert in California three songs into his show on Saturday night, telling fans he had to cancel because he had lost his voice.
Fans packed SoFi Stadium for the second consecutive night to see the Canadian singer-songwriter perform another show on his After Hours Til Dawn tour, KNBC-TV reported.
But the singer, whose real name is Abel Makkonen Tesfaye, apologized and said he had to stop the show as he stopped his rendition of “Can’t Feel My Face,” according to the Los Angeles Times.
“I want to personally apologize to the audience. I don’t know what happened when I screamed, but I just lost my voice,” The Weeknd told the crowd. “This is killing me. I don’t want to stop the show but I can’t give you the concert I want to give you right now.
“I’m going to make sure everyone is good, you’ll get your money back,” The Weeknd told the crowd. “But I’ll do a show real soon for you guys.”
The singer later shared an apology on Twitter, KTLA reported.
“My voice went out during the first song and I’m devastated. Felt it go and my heart dropped. My deepest apologies to my fans here. I promise I’ll make it up to you with a new date.”
The Weeknd will be heading overseas soon. The next dates listed on Ticketmaster’s calendar for the artist are Sept. 13 in Johanneshov, Sweden, followed by Sept. 22 and 23 in Toronto, the Times reported.
