Rain may have dampened the ground but it didn’t dampen the spirits of the lucky people who secured a reservation to the first White House Easter Egg Roll in two years.
President Joe Biden and first lady Jill Biden opened the White House grounds to children and their families Monday morning after the COVID-19 pandemic forced the cancelations of the annual event in 2020 and 2021, The Associated Press reported.
“This year we’re finally getting together again, and it’s so special,” President Biden said when welcoming the attendees.
The theme of the egg roll was “EGGucation” since the first lady is a community college professor. She made the South Lawn a school community with educational stations sprinkled among the typical Easter-related events such as the egg roll, egg hunt and reading nook.
“The determined spirit of education is what we wanted to honor in this Easter Egg Roll,” Jill Biden said during her remarks, according to the AP.
About 30,000 people are expected to attend the Egg Roll on Monday, the AP reported. Many of them had entered a lottery on Recreation.gov for a chance to attend.
