He was shot as he walked into Makeda’s Butter Cookies. Employees of the bakery told WHBQ that someone drove up, and then shot and killed him.
Young Dolph was based in Memphis and started breaking onto the local scene with mixtapes, including his 2008 debut, “Paper Route Campaign” before becoming known nationwide in 2014 with his mixtape “High Class Street Music 4″ and the single “Preach,” according to All Music.
He released his first studio album, “King of Memphis,” in 2016, according to WHBQ.
His music made it to the Billboard charts as a solo performer, and with collaborations with Megan Thee Stallion and O.T. Genasis, according to All Music.
He had two songs hit the Billboard Hot 100 chart, once in 2016 and another in 2017.
Young Dolph released two albums this year, “Dum and Dummer 2″ and “PAPER ROUTE iLLUMINATi.”
He was born Adoph Thornton, Jr. in Chicago on Aug. 11, 1985, according to All Music.
Young Dolph gave back to the Memphis community by handing out Thanksgiving turkeys through Memphis Athletic Ministries. He also frequently spoke to schoolchildren and donated money to his former high school, Hamilton High School, WHBQ reported.
