DELRAY BEACH, Fla. — A South Florida woman was shot while sitting on the balcony of her second-floor apartment on Tuesday, authorities said.
The shooting occurred at about 1 p.m. EDT at the Village Square apartments in Delray Beach, Ted White, a spokesperson for the Delray Beach Police Department, told the Sun-Sentinel.
The 77-year-old woman, who has not been identified, was taken to an area hospital, according to WPTV. She was listed in critical condition, the Sun-Sentinel reported.

Police said they did not believe the woman was the intended target, WPBF-TV reported.
The shooting occurred less than a day after a 16-year-old boy was shot at a nearby apartment complex, the Sun-Sentinel reported. Police are still searching for the shooter in that case, Dani Moschella, a spokesperson for Delray Beach Fire Rescue, told the newspaper.
Authorities said they did not know if the two shootings were related. An investigation is ongoing.
