LONG BEACH, Calif. — U.S. Coast Guard officials are searching the waters near the western coast of Mexico after a woman went overboard from a cruise ship, authorities said.
The woman, who was in her mid-20s, was on a Carnival Miracle cruise ship and was reported missing at about 3:30 a.m. PST, KABC-TV reported.
Update 8:50 p.m. EST Dec. 12: The U.S. Coast Guard suspended its search for the woman, who has not been found, KNBC reported.

Original report: Security footage captured the woman falling overboard about 35 miles off the Mexican coast, KNBC-TV reported. The woman was on a cruise ship that sailed from Long Beach, California on Thursday and was headed to Ensenada, Mexico, according to KABC. The ship returned to Long Beach on Sunday morning, the television station reported.
The woman’s identity has not been revealed.
She reportedly fell from the fifth-floor balcony of her stateroom, KCBS-TV reported.
The Coast Guard tweeted that an MH-60 Jayhawk was involved in the search over the ocean. The helicopter is based in San Diego.

“We advised Carnival Miracle guests this morning of an overboard incident involving one of our guests from the balcony of her stateroom,” a Carnival Cruise Line spokesperson told KNSD-TV. “Our thoughts are with the guest and her family, and our Care Team is providing support.”
A search is ongoing, the Coast Guard said.
