TAMPA, Fla. — A Florida woman whose trip to the salon ended with her losing a limb has reached a settlement with the salon.
Clara Shellman said she developed an infection after a pedicure at Tammy’s Nails 2 in Tampa, and had to have her leg amputated when the infection spread from her toe to her lower leg, WFLA reported.
Shellman’s lawyers had claimed improper cleaning and sanitation of supplies and tools at the salon led to the infection and amputation. “While the infection the salon allegedly caused Ms. Shellman began with a small cut, it spread quickly due to her severe peripheral arterial disease. While no amount of money can truly make up for such a life-altering injury, I’m happy that this settlement will compensate her for a world of pain and suffering that wasn’t her fault,” one of Shellman’s attorneys told WFLA.
Under the settlement, the salon will pay Shellman $1.75 million, WTSP reported.
