TSA officers find ‘cat eyes' in carry-on luggage at Sea-Tac

SEATAC, Wash. — TSA officers found a weapon known as “cat eyes” in a passenger’s carry-on luggage at Sea-Tac Airport Tuesday morning.

According to TSA Public Affairs Manager Lorie Dankers, cat eyes are a martial arts-type item that some people carry for self-defense.

To use them, two fingers are put through the “cat’s” eyes to enable the user to poke someone in the eyes or elsewhere on the body with the “ears” of the item.

“This item could cause quite a bit of damage to an individual by blinding them or potentially worse.  That is why they are not allowed in the cabin of the aircraft,” said Dankers.

The spokeswoman said cat eyes are found at the security checkpoint at least a couple times a month.

Like most prohibited items, they are allowed in checked baggage.
