SEATTLE — The EE wing of the University of Washington Medical Center was evacuated Monday night after two gallons of formalin, a form of formaldehyde, spilled, the Seattle Fire Department said.
People were told to avoid the immediate area.
One person who was handling the formalin went through a decontamination procedure, the fire department said.
A hazmat team went into the building and neutralized the chemical, and later contained the spill, the school said.
Officials gave the all-clear to reenter the building at about 6:35 p.m.
