SEATTLE — The well-known, large Husky Helmet Car that drives around the track at Husky Stadium during football games will now be a part of history.

KIRO 7 Eyewitness News partner the Tacoma News Tribune reported that the University of Washington announced Thursday that the car will be donated to the Museum of History and Industry on Aug. 15.

The car zipped around the stadium with cheerleaders and band members aboard after the Huskies scored.

The car was financed by UW's athletic department and was maintained and operated by Husky Marching Band directors and members.

Husky Stadium has been in renovation since 2011. As part of the renovation, the track that circled the field was removed.

The newly renovated stadium will open its doors on Aug. 31 for the Husky Football game against the Boise State Broncos.
