VIDEO: O.J. Simpson's Ford Bronco chase, June 17, 1994

O.J. Simpson's Ford Bronco chase on the evening of June 17, 1994 captured the attention of 95 million viewers nationwide.

That night – 20 years ago – KIRO 7 interrupted regular programming to show shared chopper footage from the low-speed chase that included more than a dozen police cars. The Bronco, driven by his friend and former teammate Al Cowlings, drove north on Interstate 405.

Simpson, an inductee into the Pro Football and College Football Halls of Fame, was wanted on suspicion of murdering his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and Ronald Goldman. Simpson was expected to turn himself in at 11 a.m. the day of the Bronco chase, but he never did. Police issued an all-points bulletin for him three hours later.

We went into the KIRO archive and found the footage we broadcast in June 1994. The video is posted above.

Also included below are videos of a domestic violence 911 call that was part of the Simpson coverage and one of KIRO 7's initial stories about Simpson's murder trial.

Simpson was acquitted of murder charges on Oct. 3, 1995.

On Oct. 3, 2008 – 13 years after Simpson was acquitted of murder – he was convicted of 10 counts in a robbery case and sentenced to 33 years in prison, with eligibility for parole in nine years.
