WB I-90 closed at Snoqualmie Pass Summit after 2 killed, 5 hurt in crash

The crashes could keep the westbound lanes of I-90 at the summit closed all day.

Two people were killed and five others were hurt in a 10-vehicle crash Friday morning along Westbound Interstate 90 near the Snoqualmie Pass Summit.

WSDOT officials said the road would be closed for most of the day, but it reopened just after 3 p.m.

A KIRO 7 News crews has been at the pass all day following the investigation for the news at 5 p.m.

Among the vehicles involved were two semi-trucks and trailers.  The driver of one of the semi-trucks, a car carrier, has been arrested for investigation of vehicular homicide.

According to witnesses, a car hauler semi was blocking the road sideways while it was still dark outside.

Truck driver Keith Cannon said he was on the road at 6:30 a.m. when he saw the car hauler blocking the road. He was able to stop, but other drivers were not, and the vehicles piled up, including a second semi truck.

Two people in a blue car were killed. Five other people were injured.

"They were dead on impact," said Cannon. "I feel bad for the people that got killed. My question is, and will always be, why was that guy broadside in the road?

The Washington State Patrol said the driver was arrested on vehicular homicide charges.

After the crash, a drug recognition expert interviewed the driver of the car hauler at the hospital. The trooper later determined that the driver was under the influence of drugs.

Meanwhile, the crash is causing long delays for hundreds of drivers. Those who need to get over the mountains westbound will have to take Blewitt Pass to Stevens Pass.
