What caused that cap cloud over Mt. Rainier?

Q: What caused that cap cloud over Mt. Rainier?

A: This is what's called a lenticular cloud. A lenticular cloud is almost like a UFO shape or cap cloud appearing to suit on top of the mountain. They're formed when winds come off the ocean.

As winds come off the ocean it hits the mountain and is forced to rise, and that’s when we see the air cool and condense into a cloud that looks like a cap.

Lenticular clouds are often a sign that wet weather is just around the corner.
