Wind advisory across Western Washington

High winds and rain expected Thursday across our viewing area.

SEATTLE — A wind advisory is in effect for most of Western Washington from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday. Winds of 15-25 miles per hour with gusts up to 30-50 mph are expected.

Rain will also be an issue throughout the day with amounts .25” -.75” north of Everett, .75” – 1.5” around the sound and 1 to 2 inches on the coast. Areas above 4,000 feet can expect snow.

The heavy rain caused traffic problems across the sound, but especially in Snohomish County and Everett.  See photos from the morning commute here.

Thursday afternoon the winds will be even stronger in many areas. KIRO 7 Chief Meteorologist Sam Argier says some of the highest wind gusts will occur between 1 and 4 p.m. around Puget Sound.  Winds will gradually start easing up as we head into the evening hours.   See the latest video forecast here.

While the wind won't be as strong as it was on Saturday, it could still bring down smaller tree branches and cause power outages.

With the expected high winds, customers are urged to prepare for power outages and report them when they happen.
