Wind rips façade from Bellingham Home Depot

NOW PLAYING ABOVE

BELLINGHAM, Wash. — Right around 8 this morning winds clocked at 60 miles an hour ripped the façade right off the entrance to the Bellingham Home Depot store.

“Ho! Ho! Look at this!” (beep)

Appliance associate Brian Gilpin said as he captured video on his phone moments after the debris fell.

“It lasted over an hour, (during) which stuff was just blowing off everywhere,” he said.

“It was the biggest scene I've ever seen in my life, when that stuff (was) flying off everywhere it was chaotic.”

Gilpin says the wind even rattled the shelves inside. Fortunately no one was hurt, inside or out.

The same can't be said for trees knocked down by the wind, which were keeping the public works department busy.

“We saw quite a few trees down, we had about 50 down blocking arterial streets, minor streets,” said Bellingham Public Works Director Ted Carlson.
