EVERETT, Wash. — A Boeing contract worker has died after serious injuries from an airbag inflator while working at the Everett flight line in November.
The Everett Fire Department arrived at Paine Field in response to the incident Nov. 13. One of the contract employees was airlifted to a hospital while another was treated and then transported to a hospital.
Boeing officials launched an investigation in the wake of the accident.
“Preliminary results indicate that the injuries were not related to airbag deployment, as would occur during passenger flight, but rather were related to the discharge of the inflator while the system was partially disassembled,” Boeing Commercial Airplanes said in a statement.
The supplier employee who died worked for Jamco. Boeing shared condolences in a statement released Monday.
“The entire Boeing team has been deeply saddened by this accident and our thoughts and prayers are with the family of the supplier employee, his friends and colleagues. We extend our condolences and are doing everything we can to be supportive of the family and respect their privacy during this extremely difficult time.
