RENTON, Wash. — Officials say a 19-year-old man drowned in Lake Washington at around 3:00 a.m. on Sunday morning.

Family members told KIRO 7 the victim had been drinking with cousins and had slipped into the water and drowned.

One cousin told KIRO 7 he’d passed out drunk and didn’t realize the 19-year-old had slipped off the dock at the Gene Coulon Park’s boat launch.

A missing person call came in to police at 1:00 p.m. Sunday.

The body was recovered in about six feet of water by divers, according to the Renton Fire Department.

"Incredibly challenging. Most of our people have kids at home -- are parents -- and so this is very challenging for law enforcement, for fire," said Deputy Chief Chad Michael with Renton Fire.

The boat launch was re-opened to the public by 5:00 p.m. Sunday.

KIRO 7 is working to gather new information and will update this story as it comes in.
