RENTON, Wash. — To help fill the void left by wide receiver Doug Baldwin, who injured his knee in Sunday’s loss to the Denver Broncos, the Seattle Seahawks are promoting Lt. j.g. Keenan Reynolds to their active roster, head coach Pete Carroll said a news conference on Tuesday.
An official announcement and subsequent roster transaction, has not yet been released by the team.
Reynolds played four years as a quarterback at the Naval Academy, where he set NCAA Division 1 records with 88 touchdowns and 5,559 yards rushing by a quarterback.
As Gregg Bell, of the Tacoma News Tribune, reported in August, after graduating from the Naval Academy, Reynolds was the last approved case of a waiver from the Department of Defense that allowed him to defer active-duty time and go into the Ready Reserve immediately to pursue a career in professional football.
The Trump administration rescinded the two-year waiver-request policy in the spring of 2017, making Reynolds the last service member selected in the NFL draft under the previous service-waiver option from the Obama administration.
Originally drafted in the sixth round by the Baltimore Ravens in 2016, Reynolds also spent time on the Washington Redskins’ practice squad in 2017.
On May 16, 2018 Reynolds signed with the Seattle Seahawks. He was cut by the Seahawks at the end of training camp, but rejoined the team’s practice squad ahead of the game against the Broncos.
Reynolds joins Brandon Marshall, Tyler Lockett, Jaron Brown, and David Moore as the other wide receivers on the Seahawks active roster.
The Seahawks next play the Chicago Bears on Monday Night football in Chicago.
