SEATTLE — Sunday marks one year since Mariners' outfielder Mitch Haniger was hit in the face by a 95 mile-per-hour fastball in a game against the New York Mets.
Haniger suffered a mild concussion, a small nasal fracture and severe swelling in his lip at the time but returned to the team on Aug. 19, 2017.
Haniger went on to make his first All-Star appearance in 2018 and heading into Sunday's series finale against the Angels is batting .261 with 18 home runs, 68 runs-batted-in, and a .355 on-base-percentage.

Mariners right fielder Mitch Haniger was hit in the face by a 95 mph fastball from Mets starter Jacob deGrom in the second inning Saturday.
Haniger was down in the batter's box for a couple minutes, then was able to walk off the field with blood dripping from his mouth. He suffered a cut in his mouth and was taken off-site for further examination.
He was replaced by pinch-runner Guillermo Heredia, which loaded the bases with one out.
